Chautauqua Seed Festival and Revue

On Saturday, January 17, the non-profit SPROUT Seed Library presents the second annual benefit Chautauqua Seed Fest and Revue. Seed swap, community locavore dinner, music, performance, dance, storytelling and beat box juggling~ these elements and more are the fecund seeds germinating this wondrous afternoon & evening of sharing, entertainment and enlightenment. Celebrating the Second Annual Benefit for the SPROUT Seed Library, the Chautauqua Seed Fest & Revue is founded on the belief that local entertainment for local audiences is a righteous good time. A joint collaboration with OAEC and support from other local agencies including Marin Organic, Regnerative Design Institute and Sustainable Fairfax, the day is a fundraiser for the SPROUT Seed Library. The Chautauqua Seed Fest & Revue begins with a community Seed Swap offering gardeners an opportunity to share and receive a cornucopia of open-pollinated and heirloom seeds. The festive atmosphere during the swap includes a locovore dinner, tasty libations and scrumptious desserts benefiting SPROUT. This year the stellar community supporting Midnight on the Water will be leading an open musical jam germinating the afternoon. The day culminates with the Chautauqua Review, a vaudevillian variety showcase of talented performers sure to please and inspire.

RedHill Farms Farm Tour
Sunday, February 15th 1:00pm

Redhill Farms
Cozy up to some baby lambs and wrap yourself in an organic wool and cotton comforter. A visit to RedHill Farms this February is sure to brighten your day and feed your curiosity.

In this economy and with our current state of environment, choosing to support a local organic product from a local sustainable producer is even more important. Choosing to get to know that farmer is true food security.

Meet Don Gilardi who just started raising sheep about 3 years ago. Also get a chance to meet his lovely mother, Joyce, who talked him into it.

Don is on the for-front of the organic local movement. As a newcomer to the world of farming his story is inspiring and essential to the growth of our food system. At our current rate, 2% of the U.S. population is growing all the food for the rest of us, it has been estimated that if we truly want a sustainable food system we are going to have to grow that number to 30%.

Jumping in hoof-first RedHill Farms has swept up local consumers and restaurants with charm and an incredible product. Murray’s Circle, restaurant at Cavallo Point, is a dedicated customer, especially since Don’s lamb helped the restaurant earn a gold star in this year’s Michelin Guide. This kind of support has Don dreaming of diversifying his operations from grass-fed lamb on organic pasture, organic wool, organic wool comforters, to adding in a dairy component and tapping into the artisan cheese market as well as perhaps raising some chickens on organic pasture for the best quality egg.

Spend a day with Don, Joyce, Marin Organic, and a bunch of sheep this winter.
