Organic and Sustainable Agriculture Coordinator Producers in Marin County seeking technical assistance, networking connections or any other resources for their sustainable operations can count on help from Steve Quirt, the Marin County Organic and Sustainable Agriculture Coordinator. Steve works from his UC Cooperative Extension office to help existing organic operations increase their environmental and economic sustainability. He also provides assistance and advice to growers who are considering converting their farm or ranch to organic practices. One of Steve's most important roles is that of relationship-builder -- amongst growers (both organic and conventional) -- and between growers and other groups such as Pt. Reyes National Seashore officials, the Marin County Agricultural Commissioner's office, Marin Organic, MALT and other NGO's and schools in Marin County. Steve has spearheaded the popular "Farmer to Farmer" workshops which Marin Organic co-sponsors and works tirelessly to inspire ranchers to diversify their operations. Steve also produces a bi-monthly newsletter on sustainable agriculture in Marin called Grown in Marin. He has a background in marketing and farms a 2-acre organic market garden in Tomales. To contact him, please call the UCCE office at (415) 499-4204.
